DO555ps AV

Expanded visually by Katarzyna Dębska, AV version of Jerzy Mączyński’s music- album DO 555ps released this year in Norway, developed together into
an audiovisual multichannel piece- a tour de force of spacious, galactic
sound design and images that lean into drone, minimalism and the rich history
of sci-fi soundtracks for a suite of astral proportions, crafted from sound bank of samples from sopranino and tenor saxophone, the layered electronics compositions tweak the reedy textures of Mączyński’s acoustic instruments and Dębska’s language merging photos, videos and 3d imaginarium into uncanny forms that seem to ex- pand and contract simultaneously across time and space.
The piece opens with the stratospheric ‘Requiem for the EARTH’S nature’, a slab of reverb-heavy outer-space ambience, throbbing synths and insistent kicks – a eulo- gy for the apocalypse, imagined in sound and video. The universe of DO 555ps un- folds across the brooding fourth world explorations, the synthetic redemption and densely fine grain as “a dry rocky place of hope covered by sonic lava” – an exercise in audiovisual world-building that surges, swells and shudders a vision of the new planet into being. From the pulsating, sparse phrasing to the nebulous interzones, DO 555ps is an audiovisual immersive piece of sonic cinema and a paean to lost fu- tures, best experienced as an unbroken whole.
The AV premiere performance at silent green in Berlin
was joined in the second part by Rabih Beaini and Nour Sokhon, adding new layers of sounds and text.
